Jesus Christ: Is He God?
The Old Testament attaches the titles of Deity to the Messiah (Isaiah 9:6; Micah 5:2). 2. The New Testament clearly states that Jesus is as much God as the Father or the Holy Spirit (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:8). 3. The Jewish rulers were seeking to kill Him because they were convinced that He was indeed claiming to be equal with the Father (John 5:18; 10:33). Jesus never corrected their impressions on this point, but only reinforced His claim (5:23). 4. If Jesus is a created being, then worshipping Him would be idolatry (Romans 1:25; Matthew 4:10). Yet, He not only accepted worship (Matthew 8:2-3), but Christians are commanded to worship Him (Phil. 2:10-11). 5. Unless one believes that Jesus is Who He claimed to be, one cannot be saved (John 8:24; Romans 10:9).
