WHAT MUST WE DO TO BE SAVED TODAY?
Do you love your soul? Have you ever thought of the destination of your soul? We are cautioned by God that we will be judged on judgment day. But the question is, how will we be vindicated? John 12:48 teaches us that the words of Christ will judge us on that day, and 1 John 5:11 further says that salvation is in Christ Jesus. How then do we get this salvation which will bring about the victory? God simply requires obedience from us and has provided us with the path to salvation in the scriptures (2 Tim 3:16). Let us explore how to come to Christ and remain saved. we may have eternal life. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6).
- Hear the gospel– In Mark 16:15, Christ gave the command that the gospel, which is centered on Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (1 Cor 15:1-4), should be preached, and one must hear this first. Hearing the command requires that someone preaches to us (Romans 10:14), and this gospel of truth produces faith when heard Rom. 10:17
- Believe the gospel– Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the word of God. Christ was sent for us to believe in Him so that
- Repent of one’s sins– Christ commands men everywhere to repent else we perish (Acts 17:30-31; Luke 13:3). And this repentance, which is a change of mind, is not a mere sorrow of a wrong deed but should come from a godly sorrow (2 Cor 7:9-10). We need to repent from our evil deeds- stealing, fornication, betting, gossip, foolish talk, selfishness, watching pornography, worldly parties, profanity, false religions, and philosophies, and others. Christ is ever ready to help us, even with our addiction.
- Confess the faith – In Romans 10:9-10, one must confess Jesus Christ as Lord. This is what the scripture calls the good confession (1 Timothy 6:12). The Ethiopian Eunuch made a confession of Christ in Acts 8:37. This leads one unto salvation.
- Baptize in the name of Christ: Christ gave a command that whoever hears the gospel and believes must be baptized to be saved (Mark 16:16). Any person we read in the New Testament- which is after the death of Christ- who got saved was baptized (Acts 2:38-41; 8:12, 38; 9:18; 10: 47-48; 16:15;30-33). Baptism truly saves (1 Peter 3:20-21), and it puts one into the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13; Eph. 1:22).
- Remain faithful:- Christians are to remain faithful until death (Rev. 2:10), by working out one’s salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12). If we believe God, we should simply obey Him to be saved or have eternal life. Do you want to be saved? What prevents you from obeying the plan of God to be saved?
