WHEN THE TRUMPET SOUNDS
Throughout the scriptures, the significance of the sound of instruments is well illustrated. The people of Israel were commanded to take certain actions upon hearing the sound of the trumpet- (Exo 19:13, Lev 25:9; Josh. 6:5). Paul also reiterates this fact in his epistle to the church of Christ at Corinth (1 Cor. 14:7-8), and this is even evident around us. But the question is, have you thought of “your response” when the trumpet of the Lord sounds? Some people view the judgment day to be a day that God will spend a lot of time judging people for their deeds, but interestingly, God has made the work so simple to the point that everything will occur within a twinkle of an eye. Considering the entirety of the scriptures, He will separate us according to those who did His will and those who did not (Matt 25:31-46, 7:21-23). What is God’s will for us today? This is what will send most of us to hell ire if we are not able to rightly divide the word of God to know but assume everything to be fine based on our thoughts (2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Peter 3:15-16).
In Paul’s epistle to Timothy, he told him to take heed to two things that will save mankind today himself and the doctrine (1 Tim 4:16). On the doctrinal aspect, it discusses the teachings and practices of the church of which Timothy was a preacher. Today, we see a lot of “denominations” out there, practicing different doctrines, yet all claiming to be of God. Is that the will of God? Certainly not. God does not entertain divisions and therefore, denominationalism is sinful before Him (John 17:20-23, 1 Cor. 1:10-13). It is an insult to God to form a group and practice anything apart from what the early Christians did and claim to be of God; for Christ came to establish His church, an eternal kingdom to save mankind- Matt 16:18, Mark 9:1; Acts 2:41-47. If God is therefore against denominationalism, why then must you and I entertain or embrace their existence? Indeed, we have to look for his one and only church and be added to the family through baptism (Romans 16:16). Becoming a part of the church does not mean you have made it to heaven, but you will make it if and only if you continue to abide in the teaching of Christ- 2 John 9. We can not be in Him and be soaked in the darkness of the world. How long will you continue to fornicate? How long will you continue to abort babies, and give advice to people to enter worldly relationships? What about the betting, following ladies here and there, defiling the people of God? The stinginess, selfishness, arrogance, pride, and the loggerhead? We live as if we know we will be alive tomorrow, and therefore could do anything we want today and repent tomorrow- such a miserable life. What about your call to “not forsake the assembling of the saints”, evangelism, and helping the needy? Friends and brethren, our service to God will be in vain if our hearts are far away from Him – Matt. 15:7.
We need to redeem the time, knowing that the days are evil- Eph 5:14. Satan will not permit us to leave his tent when we are becoming Ph.D. holders in procrastination, especially with our salvation. No one knows when the trumpet of the Lord will sound as He comes to judge the world (Acts 17:30- 31). But what will your answer be if He was to come now that you are reading this letter? Do you count it worthy, for Christ to shed his blood to purchase His church (Acts 20:28) and men establish denominations? Do you count it worthy, that after Christ has cleansed you from your sins, to go back and enjoy them again? If not, then, let us reconsider our states, it is never too late when the day comes. Seek help now and be saved today for eternity.
Let us work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12), snatching ourselves and friends also from the hell fire (Jude 23). Let us continue with the good works of faith and God will reward us at His coming. Heaven rejoices when we work the works of God so let us take heart, the journey will end soon and we shall account to our maker and receive eternal reward-1 Cor. 15:58. James Milton Black wrote in his song,
“When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more, and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair; when the saved of God shall gather over on the other shore, and the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there”.
Will you be there? On the day, we shall all appear before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account of all that we did in our body- both good and evil- 2 Cor 5:10. Today is the “grace day”, cease it and amend your ways, thoughts and belief and submit to the will of God- Eccl 12:13-14.
